Adding megapixel power to the popular S400 Digital Elph, Canon&apos;s PowerShot S500 bumps up the resolution to 5 megapixels--providing richer details and improved clarity. Elegantly designed and super compact, the S500 has a protective stainless steel shell with a celabrite finish, which mixes metals and ceramics to produce a tough cool-toned exterior that is visually stunning. It also features a 3x optical zoom, high-resolution video capture, and Canon&apos;s new Print/Share button, which helps you quickly connect directly to a printer or send an image via e-mail.

The S500&apos;s 5-megapixel sensor captures a wealth of detail.
Optics and Resolution
The 5-megapixel PowerShot S500 can capture 2592 x 1944 images for poster-size prints. It also has 1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480 resolution modes. The 3x optical zoom lens has a focal length of 7.4-22.2mm (35mm equivalent: 36-108mm). It also has a 4.1x digital zoom.

Movie Mode
The PowerShot S500 lets you capture high-resolution 30-second video clips with sound at 640 x 480 (10 frames per second). You can also capture 3-minute movies at lower resolution settings: 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 (both at 15 frames per second).

More Camera Features

9-point Artificial Intelligence autofocus (AiAF) for fast and sharp images, even with off-center subjects
1.5 inch low-temperature polycrystalline silicon TFT color LCD (118,000 pixels)
Real-image optical zoom viewfinder
Built-in flash with auto, red-eye reduction, and slow sync modes
Record a voice memo of up to 60 seconds and attach to images
Shutter speed: 15 - 1/2,000 seconds
White balance control: Auto, pre-set (daylight, cloudy, tungsten, fluorescent, fluorescent H), or custom white balance
Continuous shooting: 2.2 frames (maximum 14 images)
2x to 10x zoom into captured images while reviewing via the LCD
Canon Technology Features

Digic Imaging Processor: While much technical discussion of digital cameras centers around the optics and the CCD sensor, the complex task of image rendering is the job of the image processor--the &quot;brains&quot; of a digital camera. Canon&apos;s latest, exclusive DIGIC Imaging Processor significantly enhances digital camera performance in numerous areas. DIGIC&apos;s high-speed signal processing is combined with high-capacity buffering to give Canon digital cameras fast response and continuous shooting capability unmatched by other digital cameras. DIGIC delivers longer battery life and beautiful, rich color rendition with far fewer white saturation problems. And DIGIC&apos;s unequaled precision delivers clear, noise-free images that are demonstrably superior.
Canon&apos;s 9-point AiAF makes it easier to focus even when your subject is off-center in the frame.
iSAPS Technology: Canon iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) technology dramatically improves the performance of AF (Autofocus), AE (Auto Exposure), and AWB (Auto White Balance). By analyzing a huge volume of photography data, accumulated over 60 years and the manufacture of over 150 million cameras, Canon engineers arrived at statistical relationships among focal length, focus distance, scene brightness, and other factors. Equipped with this &quot;fore knowledge&quot; Canon PowerShot cameras can optimize AF/AE/AWB settings for any given scene more rapidly and more effectively.
Multi-point AiAF: Canon&apos;s wide-area, multi-point AiAF (artificial intelligence autofocus) automatically selects one or more focusing points based on factors, such as subject position and motion. AiAF works in conjunction with iSAPS Technology to more quickly and accurately achieve autofocus under a wide variety of shooting conditions. You get fast, accurate AF whether you hold the camera horizontally or vertically, with stationary or moving subjects, with off-center subjects, and even in low-light/low-contrast lighting.
Direct Printing/Sharing
The PowerShot S500 introduces a new Print/Share button that speeds and simplifies printing to compatible Canon and PictBridge enabled printers and one-touch image transfer to Windows XP, Me, 2000, and 98 computers for use with image processing programs, uploading to the Internet, or placement in e-mail. When connected to a Canon Compact Photo printer, a Movie Print mode divides the selected clip into equal parts and prints thumbnails of a maximum 63 equally spaced frames onto a single sheet of Postcard Size Paper.

Storage and Transfer
Images and video are stored on CompactFlash memory cards (Type I only) and the included 32 MB card holds approximately 21 images at the Large/Fine setting. Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1 connectivity, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

Power and Size
The camera is powered by rechargeable lithium-ion battery (NB-1LH). With the LCD on, you will get approximately 190 shots. It measures 3.43 x 2.24 x 1.09 inches and weighs 6.5 ounces (without batteries).

<content type="text/html" mode="escaped" xml:lang="en" xml:base="http://www.shinyplastic.com/products/">
The Canon PowerShot A300 offers the entry level solution to digital camera users new to the field. Packed with a host of features and a 3.2 mega pixel CCD sensor, this little camera produces great pictures.
Like Olympus digital cameras, the camera is turned on via a sliding lens protector at the front that forces the camera into life. Two AA batteries and the CompactFlash compartment are housed behind a sturdy door that will easy take a beating over the lifespan of the camera without snapping or falling apart. The other side the camera offers a DC and USB port, but unfortunately no video-out to watch your pictures on the TV.

On the rear of the camera, the user is offered a 1.5&quot; TFT screen that is sharp and responsive to changing lights and focuses, as well as, a host of buttons - most of which are self explanatory and you can easily access flash modes, picture review and other options like this without having to plough through plenty of menus.

The camera offers a 33mm f3.6 fixed focal length lens with a 5.1 digital zoom option that offers the equivalent of a 33mm - 168mm lens in a 35mm camera. This combined with shutter speed range of 1-1/2000 sec and ISO ratings of 50 - 400 and a range of pre-programmed settings to cope with landscapes and portrait shooting makes for a nice little camera for beginners. For the more adventurous there is a macro mode up to 5cm, as well as, the option to record up to 3 minutes of movie clips with sound.

For an auto focus fixed lens camera with a digital zoom the quality is quite good. Detail is captured well and greens are differential when it comes to photographing landscapes. The digital zoom is useful for getting into the action, but should not be replied upon for crisp images. Overall as a starter&apos;s camera this is an okay place to start. If you are starting out and need a camera that will get you going, this is as good a place as any to start, just don&apos;t expect the world. --Jason Denwood, Amazon.co.uk

A beautiful match: The sleek, stainless steel Canon PowerShot Digital Elph S500 in its own luxurious, custom-made Coach leather carrying case.

And DIGIC&apos;s unequaled precision delivers clear, noise-free images that are demonstrably superior.
iSAPS Technology: Canon iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space) technology dramatically improves the performance of AF (Autofocus), AE (Auto Exposure), and AWB (Auto White Balance).

PowerShot Pro 1 gives you the creative performance of a high-end SLR camera with the digital capability and ease of use inherent to the PowerShot line. The camera&apos;s 8 Megapixel CCD captures life to the extent that even prints of 8&quot; x 10&quot; or larger are highly detailed and gorgeously colored.
L Lens

Lens construction: aspherical lens in blue, UD lens and fluorite in purple
The PowerShot Pro1 incorporates Canon&apos;s top-of-the-line lens, the L Lens, legendary among professional photographers. Driven by an Ultrasonic Motor, the super-fast 28-200mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.4-3.5 lens uses fluorite and UD (Ultra-low dispersion) glass for clear, sharp image delineation with an absolute minimum in chromatic aberration. Also incorporated is an Aspherical lens, precision-manufactured to within 0.1 microns, which corrects spherical aberrations and curvilinear distortion while keeping the zoom lens compact.

Shooting modes for all occasions
PowerShot Pro1 offers shooting modes (see below) for every situation and level of photographic experience. Photo Effects in Vivid Color, Neutral Color, Low Sharpening, Sepia, Black &amp; White and Custom are also available, boosting the artistry of your shots instantly.

Three light-metering modes deliver precise exposure: evaluative metering, center-weighted average metering and spot metering, which lets you measure exposure at the chosen AF point or the center of the frame for an exceptional level of control. And the camera&apos;s innovative FlexiZone AF/AE system lets you move the AF point around the frame to focus on off-center subjects without reframing the shot, and connects the AF point to the exposure system when the camera is in spot metering mode.

Modes

Custom: Control and store 2 sets of parameters to your exact preferences
Auto: Concentrate on your composition while the camera manages all the technical work.
Portrait: A larger aperture ensures a well-focused subject and beautiful background blur.
Landscape: A smaller aperture is perfect for capturing sweeping vistas
Night Scene: Background exposure and slow-sync flash light tricky night shots perfectly.
Shutter Speed Priority: Select from a wide range of shutter speeds while the camera sets an appropriate aperture.
Stitch Assist: Easily create precisely aligned panoramas. Stitch Assist even lets you confirm the next image to shoot on the LCD monitor or electronic viewfinder while you’re shooting the current image.
Movie: Create movie clips with audio and enjoy a broad range of resolution choices: high-resolution VGA (up to 30 sec.) or long-play QVGA and QQVGA (up to 3 minutes). Unwanted scenes can be deleted during playback.
Program: Set almost all parameters yourself, while the camera selects aperture and shutter speed.
Advanced Digital Imaging Technology
Canon&apos;s exclusive DIGIC Imaging Processor revolutionizes how you shoot digital by allowing the camera to process images faster and improving the accuracy of the autofocus. DIGIC also reduces the effects on noise in your images.
iSAPS Technology is an entirely new scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the fast DIGIC Imaging Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

The components of photographic space that are precision captured by DIGIC

Incredible Up-close shots
Super Macro Mode: The PowerShot Pro1 features a standard macro function that allows you to shoot clearly at just 4&quot; from your subject. It also incorporates a new Super Macro Mode that takes you in even closer. Position your subject as little as 1/2&quot; from the tip of the lens and capture a full 8 megapixels of astonishingly close detail.

Bigger, Sharper, Vari-angle LCD monitor

With a comfortable, ergonomic grip and natural inline layout of key elements, PowerShot Pro1 is designed with the photographer in mind. The camera features a swiveling 2.0-inch Vari-angle LCD monitor that offers the highest resolution in its class at 235,000 pixels. The electronic viewfinder offers the same sharp resolution, and both keep pace with the high-speed zoom for seamless, responsive shooting. Information in the large display panel is always clear and visible and the panel can be illuminated at the push of a button. The mode dial is located for easy viewing during operation, and a main switch takes you quickly from shooting to playback mode.

Capture extremely fast-moving subjects
Speeding objects are fair game with a high-precision shutter drive that reaches a maximum speed of 1/4000 sec. (or you can shoot for up to 15 seconds in low light). Two continuous shooting modes capture high-impact images at any pace: standard (1 image per second) or high-speed (2.5 images per second).

Shoot high-quality movies with sound
High-quality movie clips with audio capture all the action. The PowerShot Pro1 offers several resolution choices: high-resolution VGA (up to 30 sec.), or long-play QVGA and QQVGA (up to 3 minutes). Delete unwanted scenes during playback.

Bracketing
Bracketing lets you capture 3 exposures with one shot, setting a range between ±2 stops at 1/3-stop increments. A major advantage to digital is the ability to switch ISO ratings without worrying about switching film rolls. PowerShot Pro1 offers instant access to ISO equivalents of 50, 100, 200 and 400.

Easy Connectivity

To printers: The camera connects directly to a wide range of Canon Card Photo Printers and Canon Direct Photo Printers for a world of printing options: credit card-size, 4&quot; x 6&quot;, 5&quot; x 7&quot;, letter-size (8.5&quot; x 11&quot;), 11&quot; x 13&quot;, labels, and much more, all without your computer. While Canon printers will deliver the highest quality prints from your PowerShot Pro1, the camera is equipped with PictBridge compatibility to ensure smooth connections to other manufacturers’ printers as well.
To PCs and Macs: PowerShot Pro 1 comes complete with Canon’s own Digital Camera Solution Disk and proven third-party software:
ZoomBrowser EX (Win)/ImageBrowser (Mac): A user-friendly program that lets you quickly and easily connect, manage files and view images.
PhotoRecord (Win): Create exciting photo layouts for personal or business use, putting text anywhere on the page. Includes Exif support for enhanced color accuracy and detail.
PhotoStitch (Win/Mac): Join sequential shots to create seamless, perfectly aligned vertical, horizontal, 2x2 panoramas or 360° panorama movies.
TWAIN Driver/WIA Driver (Win): Allows your computer to recognize your camera and integrate well with third-party software.
ArcSoft Camera Suite (Win/Mac): Crop, enlarge and retouch photos and video clips like a pro.
Apple QuickTime (Win): Makes playing back your video clips fun and easy.

High-resolution elegance and an impressive zoom
The ultra-sleek, ultra-slim 4.0-megapixel PowerShot SD300 Digital Elph comes with a 3x optical zoom and 3.6x digital for an 11x combined zoom. <content type="text/html" mode="escaped" xml:lang="en" xml:base="http://www.shinyplastic.com/products/">
Canon updates its popular S-series PowerShot digital camera line with the 5-megapixel S60. It features a number of enhancements over the previous S50 model, including larger optical zoom (3.6x versus 3x), a closer macro zoom distance, larger video resolution, support for conversion lenses, and a higher capacity battery.
Optics and Resolution The PowerShot S60 has a 5-megapixel sensor with a maximum resolution of 2,592 x 1,944 pixels, enough detail for 4-by-6-inch to 20-by-30-inch (poster size) photos. Other resolution modes include 2048 x 1536 (3MP, 1600 x 1200 (2MP), 1024 x 768, and 640 x 480. It features a 3.6x optical zoom and 4.1x digital zoom for a total 14.8x zoom. The lens features Canon&apos;s new UA (Ultra-high refractive index, Aspherical) lens, allowing for the design of a more compact lens--making the S60 almost 8% thinner than the S50. The 28-100mm focal length range expands to 200mm with the addition of an optional 2x tele-converter.

Canon&apos;s powerful DIGIC image processor provides a huge capacity for complex assessment of the scene to be captured. The PowerShot S50 uses information from the zoom position, scene brightness, and other systems to determine what sort of subject is being photographed in order to optimize AF speed, exposure accuracy, and white balance performance.

Movie Mode
The S60&apos;s movie mode has been upgraded to a maximum resolution of 640 x 480 (10 frames per second); it also offers 320 x 240 and 160 x 120 modes (15 frames per second). Individual movie clips are limited to 3 minutes maximum per clip (and 30 seconds maximum for 640 x 480 mode).

More Features
For beginners, the camera is point-and-shoot simple. Just twist the dial to Auto and start snapping pictures. The PowerShot S60 offers a myriad of setting options, including three light metering modes, white balance presets with two positions for custom settings, exposure and focus bracketing, manual focus and AF lock, aperture and shutter-speed priority, and adjustable ISO-equivalent sensitivity.

The PowerShot S60 features 13 shooting modes, including subject-based modes and semi-auto modes such as aperture priority. Photo Effects are an easy way to add creative dimension to your photography, with settings including Vivid, Neutral, Low Sharpening, Sepia, Black &amp; White and Custom. A fast sequence mode allows a maximum frame rate of 2 frames per second, maintained for up to eight images. A new Macro Function lets you shoot as close as 2 inches with incredible detail: the shortest focal length of any Canon compact digital camera not equipped with Super Macro.

The nine-point AiAF lets you focus your subject no matter where it appears in the viewfinder. For more freedom, FlexiZone AF/AE let you select which part of the frame you wish to focus on without moving your camera.

Other features include:

Large 1.8-inch LCD monitor
Built-in flash with auto, on, off, manual, slow-synch, and red-eye reduction modes
Simultaneous RAW and JPEG file recording
15 second to 1/2000 sec shutter speeds
Intelligent Orientation Sensor displays your images properly rotated during playback on the LCD screen and your computer screen
Storage and Transfer
The S60 uses CompactFlash cards to store images, and it&apos;s compatible with Type I or Type II cards, including Microdrives. It also supports the FAT32 format for cards larger than 2 GB. The included 32 MB card holds approximately 21 images at the Large/Fine setting. It connects to Macs and Windows-based PCs via a USB 1.1 connection.
Direct Printing/Sharing
The S60 incorporates Canon&apos;s new Print/Share button that speeds and simplifies printing to compatible Canon and PictBridge enabled printers. It also offers one-touch image transfer to Windows XP, Me, 2000, and 98 computers for use with image processing programs, uploading to the Internet, or placement in e-mail. When connected to a Canon Compact Photo printer, a Movie Print mode divides the selected clip into equal parts and prints thumbnails of a maximum 63 equally spaced frames onto a single sheet of Postcard Size Paper.

Power and Size
The camera is powered by the rechargeable lithium-ion battery NB-2LH, which provides approximately 240 shots with the LCD on and 550 shots without the LCD. It measures 4.5 x 2.2 x 1.5 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 8.1 ounces (without battery).

What&apos;s in the Box
This package contains the Canon PowerShot S60 digital camera, 32 MB CompactFlash card, rechargeable lithium-ion battery (NP-2LH), battery charger, wrist strap, USB and A/V cables, CD-ROM with Digital Camera Solutions, ArcSoft Camera Suite, and drivers, and printed operating instructions.

This model comes with the Canon EF-S 18-55mm, f3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Compact and ultra-lightweight with impressive close-focusing ability, this lens features optimized coating for the Digital Rebel&apos;s imaging sensor to minimize ghost images and flare. It comes with lens cap and dust cap. Optics and Resolution
A large-format, high-resolution CMOS sensor captures 6.3 million pixels to deliver up to 3027 x 2048 pixel images. Other resolution modes include 2048 x 1360 and 1536 x 1024. As it captures images, the sensor amplifies each pixel&apos;s electric charge, for ultra-fast image scanning. The large sensor also has a 3:2 aspect ratio, traditional to 35mm film, for a familiar compositional feel.

Canon&apos;s exclusive DIGIC image processor offers advanced signal processing algorithms that heighten precision and detail, smooth gradation in highlight areas, and create color reproduction that is as vivid as it is utterly natural. Additionally, the DIGIC&apos;s speedier processing improves the camera&apos;s battery performance, and adds to the camera&apos;s overall responsiveness and agility.

More Features
With the 1.8-inch LCD screen, you can zoom images from 1.5x all the way to 10x, moving up, down, left and right to see any area up close. You can even advance to the next shot in the enlarged view with no need to zoom again. The Digital Rebel also generates JPEG Small/Normal image files to make the image playback faster on the camera&apos;s LCD monitor.

The large-format, high-resolution CMOS sensor captures a staggering 6.3 million pixels.

Creative Zone modes include A-DEP, Manual, Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Priority AE, and Program AE
Advanced controls will keep experienced photographers motivated and inspire beginners to expand their SLR skills. Creative Zone modes include A-DEP (automatic depth of field auto exposure) to set a &quot;zone of sharpness,&quot; Manual, Aperture Priority AE to set the aperture, Shutter Priority AE to set shutter speed, and Program AE to let the camera select different shutter/aperture combinations while maintaining a constant exposure.

The camera&apos;s controls are intelligently arranged. A mode dial gives you easy access to shooting controls to make even one-handed shooting comfortable.

Other features include:

Built-in, pop-up flash with an approximate 3-second recycle time
Continuous shooting speed of approximately 2.5 frames per second with a maximum burst mode of 4 shots
ISO speed range of 100 to 1600
7-point autofocus with the following modes: One-Shot AF, Predictive AI Servo AF, AI Focus AF (Automatically selects One-Shot AF or AI Servo AF selected according to shooting mode), Manual Focusing (MF)

Printing
Canon has introduced a series of printers designed to work directly with its lineup of digital cameras, including the Digital Rebel. Using these printers, no computer is required--simply connect the camera to the printer and start printing. Printers include Canon&apos;s bubble jet direct printers i900D and i960, and card photo printer CP-200 and CP-300. New PictBridge compatibility allows you to connect the camera to any PictBridge-conforming printer and access a wide range of printing media, modes, and styles.

Storage and Transfer
Images are stored on CompactFlash Type I or II memory card; the Digital Rebel is MicroDrive compatible. The Digital Rebel does not include a memory card.

Images can be downloaded to either a Mac or PC via USB 1.1, which means the camera can be connected to any USB-based Windows Me/2000/XP and Mac OS 8.6 or later computer without installing any software.

This camera can connect directly to select printers. Learn more about PictBridge.

<content type="text/html" mode="escaped" xml:lang="en" xml:base="http://www.shinyplastic.com/products/">
Canon, a leader in photographic and imaging technology, adds the 4.0 Megapixel PowerShot A85 to its popular PowerShot range. The camera replaces the PowerShot A80, one of the most successful cameras in Canon&apos;s seventy year history. As well as improved ergonomics and refreshed styling, the camera includes a large 1.8&quot; LCD, 13 shooting modes (including a special scene mode with 6 selectable pre-set scenes), VGA movie clips with sound, 9-point AiAF auto focus, and a Print/Share button plus extended print functionality. A wide selection of accessories includes wide and tele converters, close-up lens, and a waterproof case.
The PowerShot A85 has a 4.0 Megapixel resolution so you have the power to capture all of life&apos;s colors and textures handsomely.

Advanced simplicity
The 13 shooting modes have been extended with 6 &apos;special scene&apos; presets, which help the user to get great looking results in sometimes tricky shooting conditions. They include presets for the beach, fireworks, underwater, foliage, snow, and indoor. The focus system has been upgraded to 9-point AiAF, for consistently sharp auto-focus even with non-centered subjects. The 3x optical zoom extends to 11x when combined with the digital zoom and has a respectable f/2.8-4.8 aperture.

The purpose built DIGIC processor integrates all image processing algorithms onto a single chip to deliver fast processing and write times, minimal shutter lag, optimal image definition and consistently clean and natural color reproduction. iSAPS, an in-built photographer&apos;s assistant, analyses composition factors such as zoom position and luminosity in order to predict the type of photo being taken. This results in faster auto-focusing, more accurate auto-exposure and precise auto white balance.

Movies now in VGA
The 3 minute movie mode with sound, full playback and in-camera editing has been extended to include the option of shooting in VGA mode for up to 30 seconds. A generously proportioned 1.8&quot; LCD makes for easier and more enjoyable playback and review.

Bright and sharp, the camera&apos;s power-saving LCD monitor measures a full 1.8&quot; with a stunning 118,000 pixel resolution.
Personal online photo gallery
Free membership is included to Canon&apos;s online Canon iMAGE Gateway, with 100 Megabytes of free storage space for online album storing and sharing. Users can upload favorite images and now movies3 to the site, which can then be shared with friends and family as individually secure online &apos;albums&apos;.

Accessories
A wide range of optional accessories extends the camera&apos;s versatility, increasing both the range of circumstances in which it can be used and the type of photographs it is capable of taking. Wide and tele converter lenses vastly increase framing options and extend the camera&apos;s effective focal length range from approximately 25mm to 250mm , while an optional close-up lens is available for macro photography. The 40m depth waterproof case is great for diving, surfing, skiing, snorkeling and general beach fun. The camera comes supplied with a 32MB Compact Flash card.

Software
Software supplied includes browsing and printing software ZoomBrowser EX (Windows) and ImageBrowser (Mac). Other software includes PhotoStitch, photo and movie manipulation software ArcSoft PhotoImpression and VideoImpression. Drivers include TWAIN (Windows 98/2000) and WIA (Windows Me). Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) support allows the camera to connect to any Windows XP and Mac OS X (v10.1/v10.2) system without the requirement for a driver installation.

Simplified Printing and Uploading
The PowerShot A85 features Canon&apos;s Print/Share button for single step printing and file sharing. When the camera is connected via USB cable to any PictBridge or Direct Print compatible photo printer or Windows PC, a blue light on the Print/Share button comes on to indicate successful connection. Pushing the button when lit instigates a print of the currently displayed image (based on the connected printer&apos;s default settings) or an automatic transfer of images to the PC . The camera transfers all images, all images not yet transferred, or all images marked for transfer, depending on the user setting selected in the Camera&apos;s set up options.

Expanded direct printing functions
When connected to a Canon Compact Photo printer, ID photo and Movie Print functions are also supported. Movie Print mode divides a selected clip into equal parts and prints thumbnails of up to 63 equally spaced frames if using Postcard Size Paper (100 x 148 mm); ideal for freezing action sequences. The ID Photo Print function replaces visits to the photo booth by printing multiple durable passport style ID photos (selectable height and width) to a single sheet.

<content type="text/html" mode="escaped" xml:lang="en" xml:base="http://www.shinyplastic.com/products/">
Canon&apos;s EOS-1D Mark II (successor to the original EOS-1D) is the ultimate professional digital SLR. Nearly doubling its predecessor&apos;s resolution to 8.2 megapixels, it also offers an improved shooting buffer for continuous shooting 8.5 frames per second at full resolution--making it the world&apos;s fastest digital SLR (as of January, 2004). It also features a faster DIGIC II imaging engine, a rugged yet lightweight weather-resistant magnesium alloy construction, capability for custom and personal presets, and dual storage slots for CompactFlash and Secure Digital cards.
Optics and Resolution
Canon&apos;s newly developed single-plate CMOS sensor with 8-channel reading technology delivers exceptional image quality, with approximately 8.2 million effective pixels (8.5 million total pixels) and a generous 28.7 x 19.1mm image size. The sensor&apos;s 3:2 aspect ratio is the same as in 35mm cameras, and the sensor&apos;s large size realizes an effective angle of view that&apos;s just 1.3 times the focal length indicated on Canon EF lenses. It features 3504 x 2336, 3104 x 2072, 2544 x 1696, and 1728 x 1152 pixel resolution settings.

A new on-chip noise elimination circuit eradicates fixed pattern and random noise. A low-pass filter placed in front of the sensor reduces false color and moire effects, while the infrared filter suppresses red fringing caused by sensor reflections and fog.

RAW processing
New Digital Photo Professional image processing software is provided for high-speed processing of lossless RAW files. It enables real-time display and immediate application of adjustments to images and includes a wide array of RAW, TIFF, or JPEG image editing functions, which give control over variables such as white balance, dynamic range, exposure compensation and color tone. It supports sRGB, Adobe RGB, and Wide Gamut RGB color spaces.

Digic II Imaging Processor
Canon&apos;s newly developed, state-of-the-art DIGIC II imaging engine achieves super high speed processing that results in continuous shooting of 8.2-megapixel images at 8.5 fps in maximum bursts of 40 (JPEG format) or 20 (RAW format) shots. By handling larger volumes of image data, DIGIC II also contributes to lower power consumption: up to about 1,200 shots can be taken on a full battery at 20 degrees C, or around 800 shots at 0 degrees C.

More Features
The new 230,000-pixel, 2.0-inch color TFT LCD offers nearly twice the resolution of monitors on other EOS digital models, nearly 100% coverage of JPEG images, and a new bolder typeface that simplifies reading of text menus. Photos displayed on the LCD monitor can be magnified from 1.5X to 10X in 15 increments, allowing you to check the focus and exposure of images with high precision.

You can easily tailor the EOS-1D MARK II to meet your own specialized needs:

21 Custom Functions with 67 settings include the removal of the ISO speed extension setting to the ISO speed extension menu, the addition of new E-TTL averaged autoflash metering, and the inclusion of AI Servo continuous shooting, which was previously a Personal Function.
25 Personal Functions can be installed in the camera at any time, via driver software, to meet high-level customization needs. New features include the ability to append data for data verification and the ability to apply the Quick Control Dial&apos;s ON/OFF switch to the Main Dial to prevent accidental changes to settings when shooting remotely with EOS Capture.
Other features include:
Images can be recorded in the JPEG image format, the RAW image format, or both formats simultaneously.
Seven Color Matrix settings are provided for JPEG and RAW images, including five factory presets that were previously available and two new settings that allow independent user adjustment of color space, color saturation, and color tone within a prescribed range.
ISO speeds are selectable in 1/3 increments (100-1600) and may be set as low as 50 or as high as 3200 through the ISO extension menu.
It offers 10 selectable white balance modes and a new WB Compensation function, which allows adjustment of blue/amber and magenta/green biases in +/-9 steps, as well as combined use of light-balancing (LB) and color-correction (CC) equivalent digital color filters.
Canon&apos;s improved Evaluative Through-The-Lens (E-TTL) Autoflash system offers new averaged metering in addition to the evaluative metering available on other EOS models.
Designed as a serious tool for professionals, the EOS-1D MARK II offers rigid magnesium alloy in the chassis and external covers (top, front, rear and memory card slot cover).
Lens Compatibility
Canon&apos;s lineup of professional EF lenses--including over 50 models ranging from 14mm ultra-wide-angle to 1,200mm super-telephoto--are compatible with the new EOS-1D Mark II (except the EF-S line). Canon&apos;s sophisticated electronic lens mount technology communicates with the camera as soon as the lens is mounted to transfer information about the lens, such as its type, f-number and focal length, thus enabling faster, more precise control from the camera.

EF lenses offer professional capabilities that meet wide-ranging needs, including such features as an Ultrasonic Motor that silently drives the autofocus mechanism with very high precision, an Image Stabilizer that automatically compensates for camera shake via microcomputer, advanced aspherical optics, fluorite lenses, Ultra Low Dispersion (UD) lenses, and Super UD lenses.

Storage and Transfer
The EOS-1D Mark II offers support for both CompactFlash Type I and II (making it MicroDrive compatible) and Secure Digital (SD) memory cards. Images can be recorded on a CompactFlash card or SD memory card alone; on both cards at the same time as a safeguard against losing important data; or on both cards, one at a time, to maximize storage capacity. It connects to PCs and Macs via FireWire (also referred to as IEEE1394, or i.Link) and USB 1.1 (which activates PictBridge printing capabilities).

Power and Size
The camera is powered by a rechargeable NiMH (nickel metal hydride) battery pack (NP-E3, included); it also requires one CR2025 for date and time settings. It measures 6.1 x 6.2 x 3.1 inches and weighs 43 ounces (camera body only without batteries; battery adds 11.8 ounces).

What&apos;s in the Box
This package includes the EOS-1D Mark II digital SLR camera body, rechargeable NiMH battery (NP-E3), AC adapter (DCK-E1), CR2025 battery, and USB and FireWire (IEEE1394) cables. The CD-ROM includes EOS Viewer Utility software for faster image preview, and Digital Photo Professional software for high-speed processing and handling of RAW images.
