Freesat, a free satellite TV service, has launched in the UK: there are no monthly subscription fees just a one-off payment for the hardware and installation.
Currently it offers 80 TV and radio channels but only one of them is high-definition (BBC). Freesat plans to have 200 channels up by the end of the year.
A standard-definition only receiver is priced at £49 ($100), high-definition receivers will cost £120 to £150 ($240 - $300) and installation will cost £80 ($160) on average.
Freesat also plans on launching 42" 46" and 50" HDTVs with integrated receivers in the next 3 months.
