LaCie has announced a 500GB edition of its rugged hard drive, joining the existing 120/160/200/250/320GB versions.

The hard drives are protected by internal anti-shock rubber bumpers, an aluminum shell and a shock-resistant rubber sleeve. Unfortunately it only seems to come in orange which limits it's usefulness for military applications.

Connectivity is provide through firewire 800, firewire 400, and USB 2.0, and no separate power supply is needed when connection to a powered usb port.

Dimensions are 3.5" x 1" x 5.7", it weighs 8.8oz, has been tested being dropped from 35", and prices range from $130 for 120GB up to $400 for the new 500GB model.
