Seagate ships one billionth hard drive

Seagate just announced they have shipped their one billionth hard drive. According to them that’s 79 million terabytes of data storage, 158 billion hours of digital video (not sure if that is hi-def or not), or 1.2 trillion hours of music.

Amongst other interesting (and not so interesting) factoids in their press release:

It took 29 years to ship a billion drives, they estimate they will ship their next billion in 5 years.

and,

Their first hard drive could hold 5 megabytes, weighed 5lb and cost $1,500.
