Blu-Ray Getting Closer

blue laser blu-ray specification

Blu-ray is one of the two competing formats for next generation optical disks that use blue lasers (= DVD disks on steroids). Today they announced that had reached agreement on a standard for the read-only version of the disks that will store 2 hours of HD-TV (27GB) on one single-sided disk.

This means that the 13 members of the Blu-ray group (such as Dell, HP, Hitachi, Sharp, Sony) can begin building Blu-ray players.

Expect to see them in the stores in 2005.
