Netgear WGR101 802.11g Travel Router part 2

netgear WGR101 wireless 802.11g travel router

Last week I mentioned the WGR101 802.11g wireless travel router, but didn’t have a good link for you to buy it.

I am going to be traveling a lot in the next 3 weeks (San Francisco, Hong Kong, and China) and thought it would be an idea to get one of these gadgets and try it out on the road.

Buy.com has a good price on the WGR101 at the moment: $58.88 after $20 mail-in rebate so I just bought one and will let you know how it works….

Update 7/9: See extended entry below.

Update 7/27: Lots more on the Netgear WGR-101 in my Axim X30 Review

Update 7/9: I ordered from buy.com on Tuesday 6th with next day shipping, it showed as in stock and said “ships in 1-2 business days”.

As of this morning (3 business days later) it is still showing as “sent to warehouse” (meaning they are waiting for the warehouse to get off their lazy asses and send it to me). End result is I won’t get it in time for my trip so I have cancelled the order.

No bricks and morter stores have it in stock so I am going to have to try to get it shipped to the first hotel on my trip. Wish me luck!

Update2 7/9: I spent hours this morning finding a merchant online who could guarantee shipment same day, and getting my credit card updated to have a customer address as a valid shipping address.

30 seconds before completing the order I got an email from buy.com saying my order was on the way. I logged onto the buy.com site and the status had been updated to shipped, I checked the fedex tracking and it was actually shipped yesterday afternoon (3 hours before a buy.com customer support person told me it was still in the warehouse).

The router has arrived, it is tiny and looks great, I will be posting a review as soon as I get to a hotel next Monday and try it out.
